Meet the “Heroes”

Skeeter had a difficult childhood, especially for a halfling. While other halfling children made life long friends while shoveling food into their mouths, Skeeter moved from town to town in the Kalduran Foster Program. From Fairies, to Wood Elves, to Ogres, young Skeeter was bounced around before finally being taken in by a family of Wolverines who "raised" him until he was legally an adult halfling at the age of 34. Skeeter joined the Shamanic Union, before being kicked out for soliciting illegal substances to his fellow Shamans. He then tried growing Fire Moss in the Wanton Forest National Park before the operation was busted, forcing him to flee across the Mist Fell. Along the way, he ran across his Fairy Foster Father, Frank, who bestowed an unusual curse on Skeeter. Skeeter now finds himself in the town of Hexton, at the age of 53, an age where one might expect a halfling man to have his life together.

Cal comes from the noble human house of Amitie, located in the neighboring kingdom of Alfjem. Cal wanted more for his life than cushy chairs and lavish meals, so when he inherited the family fortune he spent it all building a massive shrine to Bernicus, the God of Adventure! However, Bernicus shunned his efforts, so penniless and aimless, Cal headed West to Kalduran, searching for a new purpose. When he finally reached the coast near the town of Dulce, he waded into the sea only to be stung by a Man-O-War jellyfish, giving him "visions" of a new deity: Ternicus, God of Badass Adventures. Now Sir Cal makes his way to Hexton, to preach the teachings of his definitely real God and uphold the values of badass adventuring!

Trevor was born in the thriving capital of the Wood Elf kingdom of Tanthior, nearly a century before the opening of the Ash Mouth. Trevor fell in love with performing at an early age, co-founding a troupe and honing his skills in slight of hand, becoming the best escape artist and close up "magician" in all of Rovundel: a questionable profession in a world dripping with actual magic. He took on the stage name of "Throbin Leaftip," using his ample charisma to open many doors and enter even more beds. However, when ash began to fall, blanketing his beautiful homeland, and war came to Tanthior, he stepped up to do his part... as first seat pennywhistle player in the army band. This too did not last, and Trevor chose not to join the Tanthiorite rebellion due to his "history" with a certain rebel leader: Shyna of Galimar. Now he has adapted his talents to a life of swashbuckling skullduggery against the citizens of Kalduran in the quiet town of Hexton.

Zaxbys doesn't remember much. They were meant to be a sacrifice to King Valkimar; that they know for sure. It was the sight of the robed figure standing over them, holding a bloody knife along their recently carved out heart that gave it away. So, they're not the biggest fan of the King. They were once a Librarian to a powerful mage, that they remember, and based on the whirling vortex of arcane energies in the hole where their heart used to be, they're pretty sure the mage was in fact Rozillandre the Arcane, reclusive archmage and master of magics. They also learned they are red Dragonborn, they learned that when they saw their reflection in the window of the diner they took refuge in after escaping from the crypt where they should have died. They didn't die though, and now very strange things seem to happen around them all the time. They liked that diner; it was a pity that it got swallowed into another dimmension. Now thier back on the road heading... up? At least they can still read, and the road signs say the next town is called Hexton.

What the heck is a Kordun or a Gheil?

Kordun and Gheil are two intelligent species (or lineages) found on the plane of Metagis, where our story takes place.

Kordun are large, muscular beings covered in thick fur, originating from a group a islands far to the south of Kalduran. You might say that a Sasquatch or Yeti are simply Kordun that somehow found their way to a different plane of reality.

While Gheil are short, asexual (in the scientific sense), anthropomorphic seal-people, who have spread across the world from the frigid north. Gheil reproduce when two spend a significant amount of time sleeping or cuddling together, resulting in one of them becoming pregnant.
