Meet the “Heroes”
Skeeter had a difficult childhood, especially for a halfling. While other halfling children made life long friends while shoveling food into their mouths, Skeeter moved from town to town in the Kalduran Foster Program. From Fairies, to Wood Elves, to Ogres, young Skeeter was bounced around before finally being taken in by a family of Wolverines who "raised" him until he was legally an adult halfling at the age of 34. Skeeter joined the Shamanic Union, before being kicked out for soliciting illegal substances to his fellow Shamans. He then tried growing Fire Moss in the Wanton Forest National Park before the operation was busted, forcing him to flee across the Mist Fell. Along the way, he ran across his Fairy Foster Father, Frank, who bestowed an unusual curse on Skeeter. Skeeter now finds himself in the town of Hexton, at the age of 53, an age where one might expect a halfling man to have his life together.

Cal comes from the noble human house of Amitie, located in the neighboring kingdom of Alfjem. Cal wanted more for his life than cushy chairs and lavish meals, so when he inherited the family fortune he spent it all building a massive shrine to Bernicus, the God of Adventure! However, Bernicus shunned his efforts, so penniless and aimless, Cal headed West to Kalduran, searching for a new purpose. When he finally reached the coast near the town of Dulce, he waded into the sea only to be stung by a Man-O-War jellyfish, giving him "visions" of a new deity: Ternicus, God of Badass Adventures. Now Sir Cal makes his way to Hexton, to preach the teachings of his definitely real God and uphold the values of badass adventuring!

Trevor was born in the thriving capital of the Wood Elf kingdom of Tanthior, nearly a century before the opening of the Ash Mouth. Trevor fell in love with performing at an early age, co-founding a troupe and honing his skills in slight of hand, becoming the best escape artist and close up "magician" in all of Rovundel: a questionable profession in a world dripping with actual magic. He took on the stage name of "Throbin Leaftip," using his ample charisma to open many doors and enter even more beds. However, when ash began to fall, blanketing his beautiful homeland, and war came to Tanthior, he stepped up to do his part... as first seat pennywhistle player in the army band. This too did not last, and Trevor chose not to join the Tanthiorite rebellion due to his "history" with a certain rebel leader: Shyna of Galimar. Now he has adapted his talents to a life of swashbuckling skullduggery against the citizens of Kalduran in the quiet town of Hexton.

Valbjorn is a passionate artiste with short fuse and a large axe. Being the son of the dwarven Forge Lord, Torvold, Val spent his youth intimately acquainted with the blacksmithing tools of the Ur Forge in Alfjem. His talent for the craft was immediately evident,—a true savant of the forge, just like his father. Prince Valbjorn however, held no love for smithing, dreaming only of attending a bardic college. After insisting to he parents that he wanted to study to become a bard, his mother managed to convince his father to let Val study at the University of the Phoenix in Kalduran. Val spent many years at the college—nine in fact, far more thatn the average student—where he learned of the courageous Shyna of Galimar, leading the Tanthiorite rebellion, and fell instantly in love. After graduating with a General Studies degree, Val moved to Hexton at the age of 42, where he pays the innkeeper to let him perform, and sends love letters, poems, and other bardic troupes to Shyna, in Galimar.

What the heck is a Kordun or a Gheil?
Kordun and Gheil are two intelligent species (or lineages) found on the plane of Metagis, where our story takes place.
Kordun are large, muscular beings covered in thick fur, originating from a group a islands far to the south of Kalduran. You might say that a Sasquatch or Yeti are simply Kordun that somehow found their way to a different plane of reality.
While Gheil are short, asexual (in the scientific sense), anthropomorphic seal-people, who have spread across the world from the frigid north. Gheil reproduce when two spend a significant amount of time sleeping or cuddling together, resulting in one of them becoming pregnant.
Kalduran
a not-so-brief history
Much like its neighbor Alfjëm to the Southeast, Kalduran was once a peaceful province that was home to two thriving nations. To the north stood the Wood Elf Kingdom of Tanthior, and to the south the Drow Dominion of Kalduran. These two nations prospered from each other for hundreds of years, until a cataclysmic event forever shattered their alliance and plunged them into a brutal conflict.
Before the Drow Ascension, the southern coast of Kalduran was inhabited by Giants, who were ravaging Tanthior’s southern border. The Wood Elves turned to the Drow, offering them the lands controlled by the Giants in exchange for their help. The Drow’s subterranean home, the Underdark, had recently been cursed by the warlock Karthus Lex, and so they readily accepted. The two Elven peoples drove the Giants back, forcing them to flee high into the mountains. After their victory, the Drow and Tanthior rulers signed the Höllenherz Pact, creating a lasting peace between the two nations.
For over five hundred years all was well, until the very earth opened up, spewing ash and noxious clouds across Tanthior, and burying Rovundel, its capital under blankets of soot and ash. The Tanthiorites, fleeing from their now dying homeland, looked again to the Drow. However this time, the Drow turned away the Tanthiorites, claiming that the Höllenherz Pact promised only peace, not an alliance. So the Tanthiorites, angered by the Drow’s betrayal, decided to take the land by force.
The Tanthiorites’ initial attack caught the Drow by surprise, gaining them a swift conquest over the border town of Wolahl. They continued their attack southward, capturing both Westwood and Shanti, but the Tanthiorites were refugees, not an organized army. Their momentum was halted on the road to Dulse, where they were met by the full force of the Drow army. The Drow and Tanthiorites fought for months over eastern Kalduran, until the Drow King Valkimar, having been away in a far land, returned wielding untold power. He vanquished the Tanthiorites in two swift strokes: single handedly obliterating a third of the Tanthiorite army, and personally executing the royal family. The Tanthiorites fled to the northern coast of Kalduran, vowing to someday take vengeance on King Valkimar.
Now, four years since the Ash Mouth opened, King Valkimar rules over the Drow Dominion of Kalduran, while the Wood Elves, led by the rebel Shyna, struggle to carve out an existence in the new Commonwealth of Tanthior. The corrupt bureaucrats live lavishly, while towns and villages still work tirelessly to rebuild the war torn lands, and in the small town of Hexton, the unlikeliest of individuals are about to join forces...
